Wavegarden Cove Video Released

San Sebastian based Wavegarden releases first video of their new man-made wave technology: Wavegarden Cove

Here’s a sneak preview of the Wavegarden Cove, a new generation surf facility capable of producing up to 1,000 waves per hour. The test pilot is Norman Landa, a local surfer from San Sebastian in Spain, getting a few clean barrels at Wavegarden’s official R&D and demo center. Stay tuned for Wavegarden’s official launch of their new Wavegarden Cove technology on May 10, 2017.

The first public and commercially operating Wavegarden Cove complex to open in Spanish territory (and perhaps anywhere in the world) is said to cost between 9.5 – 10 million euros, and will occupy a total area of 48,500 square meters.

The Catalan surf park is getting ready to debut the second generation of Wavegarden technology at full scale – the new Wavegarden Cove surf pool will be triangular in shape and capable of generating barreling A-frame waves, i.e., left and right-handers.

The Wave Park Group is also deep into the pre-development process of building multiple surf park facilities throughout Australia under the URBNSURF banner. URBNSURF Perth, URBNSURF Melbourne and URBNSURF Sydney have been announced thus far and all will be utilizing the Wavegarden Cove wave technology.

According to the Wave Park Group in their business plan submission for URBNSURF Perth, the Wavegarden Cove open water lagoon will comprise of two zones within which waves of differing heights can be produced. The two zones allow for beginner through to advanced levels of surfing competency to be accommodated contemporaneously.

The “Peak” zone will provide up to 1.7 meter (5.6ft) high, 15 second-long, steep left and right hand pitching waves allowing the highest levels of performance surfing. Waves in this zone will form cleanly and break with constant power and shape through the ride, which will be equivalent to riding high quality ocean based waves of similar sizes.

Guests will typically enjoy a longer, and higher quality, wave riding experience than can be experienced on the Perth coast. The “Bay” zone produces reformed, smooth, white-water waves at 0.6 meters (2ft) in height which are ideal for beginner to novice surfers. It is also an ideal location for children and other guests with limited knowledge, or sense, of open water safety, enabling the acquisition of the basic skills required for surfing. The Bay area is well suited for both surfing lessons and free-surfing sessions.

Stay tuned for Wavegarden’s official launch of their new Wavegarden Cove technology on May 10, 2017.
