During Scotland’s search for the right wave tech for them, they found themselves in the Basque Country. The whole team is frothing on this and we expect to see a lot more from them in the future.
April 26, 2018. Wavegarden Scotland has received the green light to move forward with their first surf park project. The team visited Wavegarden’s R&D center located in the Basque Country of Spain, to get a taste of what to expect on a daily basis back in Edinburgh. This technology is going to be a game changer for Scotland’s National Surf Team in the long run.
Mark Boyd is the Captain of Scotland’s National Surf Team, and he knows ‘s first hand about the up-and-coming talent that’s breeding in Scotland’s surf scene.
“For the Scottish Surfing Federation and surfing in Scotland, in general, it’s going to up the level,” said Mark after his first Wavegarden experience.
The Wavegarden “Cove” model is changing the landscape of typical surf coaching. Previously, and currently, surf coaching is a luxury that has been reserved for elite level surfers that compete on the WCT. Having a consistent platform that doesn’t change allows surfers to replicate the same turn, over and over. Coaches can technically breakdown turns for kids and adults alike while Filming and doing video analysis.
This is a major step for the legacy of Scotish surfing. Although it may not put their current surfers on the WCT, the long-term result could easily be Scotland on a podium.
Every wave is different in the ocean, hardly ever presented with the same opportunity on two different waves. Wave technology changes that and allows laser focus on one element at a time.
The landscape of surfing is changing and it’s a wonderful time. More inspiration, more creative lines, and more surfing.
