Rumors of a new Wavegarden surf park becoming the centerpiece of the luxury real-estate development in Devon, UK have proved unfounded.
According to a release from Wavegarden, “regarding the latest news about a new Wavegarden project in Devon we want to clarify that we work exclusively with The Wave team in this region and they have not decided to deliver a project at this location.”
The plan for the 220 acre site included a concert venue, outdoor space for sporting activities, and many shops and of course a surf park. The lagoon would attract many extreme sports enthusiasts and create over 3,500 jobs for the area, which would drive tourism and traffic to the Devon countryside.
AXA real estate spokesman, Bob De Barr, said, “this is an exceptional plan to create a national and international tourist attraction that will well and truly put Mid Devon on the map. It will be an all year round destination, vibrant and buzzing throughout the day and into the evening, whatever the weather.”
He continued to say, “we are very excited about the surf park. It’s the centrepiece of Westwood and, alongside the concert venue and the other activities on offer, will give Mid Devon and the region a destination that is different to anything else in the UK.”
While Wavegarden’s statement clearly defines that their technology will not be used for this project, it does beg the question of whether the surf park is completely off the table, or whether AXA real estate will choose another wave technology company.
