2017 Tropical Wave Shred Indoor Wakesurfing Competition
Local surf contests in a wave pool has long been one of the objectives of the growing surf park movement, and now it’s actually happening.
The Surf’s Up facility in Nashua, New Hampshire, has just announced the 2017 Tropical Wave Shred competition. April of this year was the first iteration of the event, but they’re coming back bigger and better next year.
Early registration is now open and starts at $80.00 if you sign-up before Jan. 15. There are three different divisions: Pro, Outlaw and Amateur. The contest will un on Surf’s Up regular wave as well as their standing barreling wave. Judging will follow CWSA (Competitive Wake Surfing Association) guidelines to ensure the criteria is up to par. The contest is scheduled to run on Feb. 25 with a “surf jam session” the following day.
For those that have never experienced Surf’s Up, the facility is being opened up for training sessions start Jan 7 through Feb 18. Why train you may ask? Well, $3,000 is on the line for the winner of the men’s and women’s divisions. There are also cash prizes for finishing second and third. And then there’s always bragging rights.
The future of surf contests beyond the ocean is now and it’s kicking off in Nashua.
