American Wave Machines to Design Surf Park in Ocean City MD

American Wave Machines | Paradise Surf Park

American Wave Machines, Inc. Awarded Contract for Paradise Surf Park Design and Pre‐Development

Solana Beach, Calif. – Sept. 25, 2012American Wave Machines, Inc. (AWM), world leader in artificial wave technology for the emerging surf parks market, announces their selection to carry out the conceptual design and pre‐development work and technology supply for the Paradise Surf owners group in Ocean City, MD.

Located on the Baltimore Washington corridor on 56 acres including a 50,000 sq foot indoor facility, Paradise Surf Park is a surf machine based business for surfing, exhibitions, contests, events, music, surf retail and fine and casual dining. Paradise Surf Park will have an operating window of 365 days per year with large and small scale wave machines appealing to high performance surfers and beginners alike. The property allows for addition of action sports including skate, bmx, and wake. Spectators, diners, and shoppers can relax surfside and watch the action.

The large scale surf pool based on AWM Perfect Swell technology is an entirely new approach to generating large waves with the emphasis on the surfing experience; wave type, wave quality, and duration (no waiting). With no moving parts in the water, sophisticated computer controls modulate wave shape, ride duration, frequency and energy efficiency. Analogous to a phased array design, PerfectSwell creates up to three waves every six seconds in different areas of the pool. Wave size is only limited by pool. An iPhone Wave App enables surfers to program and store their own custom designed surf session and capture it with a video and photo interface.

Paradise Surf Park will also feature AWM’s smaller footprint SurfStream® model SS5032 also with programmable controls and modular inserts that allow multiple wave types in one machine. It includes a standing 5’ barrel with 30’ of face to carve on in addition to training and intermediate waves which operate at lower power so that the wave size can progress along with the riders’ skill.

“To pull this off we had to have a plan that was feasible, sustainable, practical, and delivers a completely authentic experience for the surfer,” said Paradise Founder Pat Truitt. “We did it. We have the best technology, the best capital partners, the best location and we’re ready to go.’

“There’s been a surfing culture in Ocean City since 1906 starting with a guy named Watts Smith and going all the way to the Dew Tour Surf Lineup,” said Bruce McFarland, President of AWM. “The fact that the first large scale surf park in the US will be in Ocean City comes as no surprise. Pat Truitt and his team will see to it that this surf park honors the surfing heritage of the east coast with a great waves and a sustainable business. We’re stoked to be working with Pat’s team.”
