Desert Wave Ventures and Beach Street Development announced today that the City of Palm Desert has approved their DSRT Surf Resort as the newest addition to the 36 holes of golf at the Desert Willow Golf Resort. The City Council unanimously approved the amended specific plan and precise plan submittals to build the 92 key barefoot luxury hotel, 83 residential villas, and a World Class 5.5 acre surfing lagoon powered by Wavegarden Cove technology. The project has been almost 5 years in the making and this represents the final entitlement approval.
The Wavegarden Cove is a new and exciting wave generating system which produces high quality multi faceted waves for expert surfers and also gentle rolling surf for beginners just learning to surf. DSRT Surf partner and professional surfer, Josh Kerr explained, “ I have surfed the Cove several times with my daughter in Spain and Australia and couldn’t believe how fun it was. Surfing perfect waves with friends and family is an incredible way to have fun, stay healthy, and enjoy time together. ”
DSRT SURF will provide a unique destination oasis for those who wish to enjoy the outdoors and surfing in one of the most beautiful environments in the world. In addition to the surfing lagoon and the world class Desert Willow golf courses, the surf center will feature a surf academy for lessons, rentals, retail and all things surf. Furthermore, the Surf Destination and hotel will also feature leisure swimming pools, hot tubs, restaurant and bars, a pump track, putting greens, pickle ball and an upscale resort with luxurious spa facilities. Unique surf and golf course front villas surrounding this idyllic surf destination will be offered for sale.
While the many project amenities and fully integrated resort provide an array of activities to keep the family entertained, it is the high quality and infinite variety of surfing waves that anchor the experience. “I can’t wait to surf here with my wife and kids. Also worth noting and given the shortage of water in California, DSRT Surf is implementing a unique “Turf for Surf” program to offset all surf lagoon water use by converting 20 acres of turf on the golf courses to drought tolerant landscaping. Energy efficiency is also critical and distributed solar power will be used extensively while passive and active energy efficiencies will be designed throughout the buildings and grounds.
“This project is our first Wavegarden Cove in North America and we are excited to see this iconic venue unfold,” said Fernando Odriozola, Chief Commercial Officer at Wavegarden. Construction is expected to begin this summer with an opening date by the end of 2023.
