Steve Davies, Managing Director of Conwy Adventure Leisure, confirmed in a recent statement that a 7-figure first stage payment has been made to Wavegarden for the buildout of what is likely to be the company’s first commercial surf park. Davies said, “We have worked alongside the team at Wavegarden for some time now and are delighted to finally make good on our promise of a partnership.”
In addition to being Wavegarden’s first commercial installation, the Surf Snowdonia project should serve to positively influence the economic growth in Wales’ Conwy Valley. While at least 100 construction workers will be employed during the buildout, up to 60 onsite jobs will likely be included in the operation of park and included facilities as well.
Work is expected to begin in May of this year. The park should be completed by and opened to the public by Summer 2015. The total investment from CAL is £7.7m – £6.2m in cash and £1.5m in additional equity.
