“Skateboard P” is supporting the idea of using an open parking lot for the location of this Virginia Beach surf park.

People who are familiar with the area know that the 10-acre parking lot on Pacific Avenue has been empty for 23 years and needs to be used. The City Agrees and they’re on board with Pharrell’s idea.
“We’ve always looked for something that was really going to be a unique entertainment offering for the city of Virginia Beach” said Councilman John Uhrin.
Pharrell has teamed up with Venture Realty Group to come up with a proposal to deliver to the city. The plan consists of restaurants, retail stores, residential structures, and a 4,000-seat music venue all surrounding a wave pool like The Colosseum.
He has a point, on the east coast, it seems like there are more flat days than anything. The number of surfers in VB is massive. Just as well, they host the ECSC which frequently experiences classic east coast conditions – flat. Certainly, there is a lot of extended potential with his idea.
“Oh my gosh people all over the world would come,” said surfer Johnathon Podolsky. “I think it would be great for the ECSC- consistent waves, same shape and everything, and the surfers will be able to really show their performance” said Podolsky.
Although, even if a surf park is introduced whether or not the ECSC would decide to use it for their annual event is unknown.
Councilman Uhrin knows that surfing is a robust industry for the city and that there’s a hell of a lot of surfers. AKA great revenue for the city.
Of course, this is just a preliminary idea. No construction will be done in the area until the park makes it through a lengthy approval process which includes a final vote by city council. There are no dates as of yet. But this Virginia beach surf park is something for east coasters to look forward to.
