Kelly Slater & Neil deGrasse Tyson Talk about Wave Pools, Teachers, and Math on StarTalkTV

Neil deGrasse Tyson, William Finnegan, Math, and Science- an unlikely mix, but we’re not complaining.

February 22, 2018. Slater is The King. He’s the only professional surfer that can sit down with someone like Neil deGrasse Tyson and have people actually listen. Kelly is not a scientist, however wizardly he might seem. He actually talks about how he got his worst grade ever in a science class. Even with that, it would be a safe bet to say that he knows a lot more about the ocean, bottom contours and waves than a handful of scientist’s. Kelly chats here with well-known astrophysicist, author, and personality Neil deGrasse Tyson on his show StarTalkTV for National Geographic.

The conversation ranges from grade school teachers to Kelly’s realization in kindergarten of “gosh, I think I’m a surfer” to the technology behind the Surf Ranch. William Finnegan, Auther of Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life, is also a guest on the show to give his input.
